After getting swatted by his grandparents' cat twice, Colin came up with a new strategy for approaching her. Here is how he explained it to us -
First, you go step, step, step toward the kitty (Colin tiptoes).
Then, you quickly pat, pat, pat (Colin pats the imaginary cat).
Then, you turn and run (Colin screams and runs away).

Thank you my friend
Colin met his cousin Kai for the first time this week. They are both 3 years old, and both of them repeatedly asked when they would get to see "my friend" and "my cousin." After some initial shyness, they began playing together and Kai said, "Let's go upstairs, my friend." It might be the cutest thing I've ever heard.
Let's pretend we get along
Overheard while Fiona and Bella were playing "Littlest Pet Shop":
F: Let's pretend we're sisters playing Littlest Pet Shop
B: Ooh, yes, let's do that.

In other words
C: "Look! He looks like Jeremiah because of his silly chin."
Jeremiah=Daddy
silly chin=beard
Jeremiah=Daddy

No, but you have done something adorable...
D: "I am so proud of you, B."
B: "I'm not proud of you. You haven't done anything proudable."

Not the response he was going for
Jeremiah to Colin:
I love you so much.
Colin to Jeremiah:
I love Mommy so much.
You too.
You love Mommy so much too.
I love you so much.
Colin to Jeremiah:
I love Mommy so much.
You too.
You love Mommy so much too.
Let's try that again...
Jeremiah to Colin:
I love you so much.
Colin to Jeremiah:
I love gardeners so much.
I love you so much.
Colin to Jeremiah:
I love gardeners so much.
Wish I could say the same
We recently got a new au pair, and we needed her to be able to drive the kids around as soon as possible. We did some practice driving - which required having all of the kids in the car with us because Jeremiah was out of town - and it scared me to pieces. She had a habit of not stopping at stop signs and seemed extremely tentative and nervous. I have no idea what made fiona say this, but as we pulled into the driveway she said:
That wasn't as bad as I expected.
That wasn't as bad as I expected.

That's good news for a variety of reasons
"Fill 'er up. I'm not driving."
